Why Empowerment?

I just need someone to talk to – what does empowerment have to do with it?

In my experience working with women, lack of self-worth and a fear of communicating needs and desires drives someone to seek counseling. Working on the three fundamental areas: communication skills, self-esteem, and setting boundaries, is the best way to make clients aware of their needs. In order to make progress in these areas, women have to dig deep and think about the messages they have received from family, social networks, and society at-large to address why they feel unworthy, unable, and unsatisfied. These are the underlying causes of anxiety, depression, low-self-esteem and adjustment issues that keep women from recognizing their own power. If you are struggling to get out of bed in the morning, it is unlikely that you are going to feel motivated to communicate your needs, be proactive, or try new things. We can work on all of this together.
