Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about counseling with Kelly

Where are you located?

Currently all appointments are telehealth (video) so don’t worry about the commute, you don’t even have to leave your house! You do have to be a NJ resident and located in NJ during our sessions. However, if you are looking for career counseling, you can video in from anywhere in the country!

How long are sessions?

The first session is a 75-90 minute intake. This means I spend some time getting to know you, learning about what brought you to counseling, and listening to what you hope to get out of counseling. After the intake, sessions are 45-60 minutes.

How often should we meet?

I get this question a lot, and the short answer is – as often as is needed and is doable for you (financially and with your schedule). But my recommendation is that we meet weekly for the at least the first 4 sessions so we can get to know one another, and build a trusting therapeutic relationship. Without that, coming to counseling is pointless!

After that point, we can discuss if weekly or bi-weekly sessions are a better option. But at the end of the day, this is your life and your mental health (and your wallet!) so you do what is best for you. The most important thing is that you communicate your needs – that is what you are coming to counseling for after all!

How do i schedule a session?

Sessions are scheduled online.

What will happen after I schedule my first session?

Prior to your first session you will receive paperwork to be completed online. This paperwork will take some time to complete, and must be submitted 24 hours before your first appointment.

how many sessions?

That is different for each person. There is no secret formula to how many sessions each person needs, and no average number. Counseling ends when you feel you have reached your goals.

Do you only work with women?

No! While I specialize in working with women, I am happy to work with anyone who who feels they have been ignored, silenced, or wishes to build healthier personal and professional relationships.

How do I know if this is right for me?

Send me an email and I am happy to answer any of your questions and/or schedule a free brief phone consultation. The first step to empowerment is asking for what you need. You can also schedule a free consultation here.
